I want to start out by saying that I'm not mad at Apple. They create amazing products and, being a designer, I use and enjoy them daily. Apple's innovation in design and engineering is unsurpassed, not to mention their unquestionable loyalty to their cult customers.
That being said, it's no surprise that I have grown increasingly impatient while trying to purchase their latest drool machine, the iPhone 3G. Like many of you, I was already feeling impatient before it was even released.
When the time came, I tried going to the Apple store on July 11th and left empty handed after someone not far in front of me got the last one. I considered AT&T's Direct Fulfillment option, but decided to try again at the store the next day. No such luck. The next day: same story. On Monday, I broke down and went to an AT&T store to have them ship me one.
What a relief, right?! No, not really. What the nice fella at AT&T failed to mention is that the iPhone I wanted is backordered...and I'm not the only one. Wonderful.
I don't know if I can last much longer with my current phone, the Samsung SGH-A717 (catchy name, eh?). The UI is a convoluted piece of crap. The icons are ugly. I mean, it doesn't even have YouTube! What good is a phone if you can't watch videos of people's cats on it?
I've created this site as a safe-haven for those of you still waiting for your iPhone 3G. Please jump over to the discussions and share any info you may have.
